Alerce Formación Integral, S.C. also known as Colegio Alerce was founded 30 years ago envisioning affordable quality education. It is a school community that differentiates its graduates from the rest because of their high moral standards and their ability to innovate; to build and apply their knowledge and charisma as well as their ease with words.

In February 2016 Grupo K12 del Noroeste, “GK12” acquired Alerce aiming to expand and henceforth began a new adventure within its learning community: a journey of transformation -if one could say so- that would strengthen the educational model of the existing school and would push it forward, leading it towards more demanding and higher educational standards and goals. Goals that would demand revision of Alerce’s Mission Statement beyond its vision of quality. This renewed vision helps our learning community move forward with new learning methods, improved instructional design and a new high quality educational model, thus embracing international academic standards and an understanding of what really matters in our future’s vocational education.

With the growing need to focus not only on bilingualism but on a true multicultural approach, GK12 launched a transformation plan for Alerce in February 2016, navigating through a challenging process of rescuing good practices, changing and reforming a mature but certainly outdated educational model for the new times to come. Its Culture, Mission Statement and core values would focus on high academic rigor with a great sense of Humanism and social conscience. In August 2017, with only a year and a half of GK12 presence at Alerce, with the entire learning community committed to the new administration, GK12 began the installment of a new educational model that would achieve 3 main objectives to prepare the school community in a titanic effort to make the institution one of the best, if not the one best school in Sonora. This meant:

Remodeling and expanding facilities. Investing in hardware, software, and in the latest educational technology. Years 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Revitalizing and incorporating new core values and a new Mission Statement in the mindset of our community, not only in the collective memory, but with real actions and results. Years 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Initiating an accreditation process that would certify our quality beyond our own endorsement, but also accredited by a third party of international standing, such as the IBO PYP (International Baccalaureate Organization Primary Years Programme) from Geneva, Switzerland. Years 2020, 2021 and 2022.

This economic, academic and personal effort from our school community would transform our teaching and learning methodology for the greater benefit of our students and therefore our school community as planned and promised.

Today Alerce is an IB PYP certified school, led by a board of trustees made up of successful women and men, entrepreneurs and academics, who with much gratitude are contributing to our society through education; not only with a “bilingual competency program” as education was once envisioned, but with a holistic and cutting-edge transdisciplinary vision that aims its success in the achievements and learning of students for their future projects.

Today we are proud to have students who are different from others in Sonora because they are the ones who take responsibility for their learning process. They are distinguished by their conscience, attitude, charisma, will and Humanism. In addition, they are students who speak several languages, with an open international mindset, without prejudice towards others, who have become empathetic and caring people.
